Little Shop of Bagels Opens in Downtown Medford
Little Shop of Bagels will open for business in downtown Medford partly because of a neighborhood bakery in south San Francisco where Francesca Fericano was raised. “We could smell the sourdough bread baking,” Francesca remembered. “One day my first grade glass went on a field trip to the bakery to see the bread being made production style. I was amazed to see dough rising. That was the first time I understood how bread was made. It definitely left a big impression on me at a very young age.”
Over 15 years ago Francesca opened a bakery of her own in Ashland. “My daughter Angelina has helped me open my Ashland shop during its several moves, starting with our first tiny shop that was only about 300 square feet. She has also helped open our present shop here in Medford located at 141 S. Central Avenue.”
Little Shop of Bagels focuses on bagels made with organic flour and grains. They also offer organic coffee, and in the new Medford location will be expanding their baked goods to include scones, bialys, focaccia bread and soups.
Francesca owes her success in Ashland to offering quality products with a unique flare and friendly customer service.
“I feel very fortunate to have such a unique and dedicated group of employees, from the counter persons to the bakers and mixers who have pride in creating great quality bagels,” Francesca said. “Maryann—my manager—has been with Little Shop of Bagels for about 8 years. She’s like family now. Many customers come in on days that she is working to be greeted by her familiar smile.”
Francesca said that she has out-of-state customers who make it a point to stop and tell her how much they enjoy her bagels, and that they wish they had a Little Shop of Bagel in their town. “Some customers have taken our bagels on flights to other countries,” Francesca said. “Now that’s flattering.”
Little Shop of Bagels is open for business at 141 S. Central Avenue Monday through Friday 7am to 5:30pm, Saturday 8am to 3pm, and closed on Sundays.
