Cindy Prewitt

Birthplace:  Medford, Oregon.cindyp-bigger
Birthdate: February 7 and you don’t need to know the year!
Title:  Publicity Chair of The Hillcrest Committee of the American Cancer Society.
Explain how you became a member of the HC:  My step-mother and late mother were active members of Hillcrest, and in 1992 I was invited to join this group of 50 local women dedicated to the fight against cancer.
What inspires you to support this organization:  I believe in the goal to raise funds for cancer research and programs to help those affected by this insidious disease.   Like many people, I have lost close family members to cancer; I am committed to do everything possible to support this vital organization and ease the pain that cancer leaves behind.
Favorite aspect of your job: The Hillcrest Committee is 100% volunteer, and I am proud to be part of this committed group of women who have raised over 1.5 million dollars.  I passionately devote my time to this local group and cherish the friendships I have made while working toward the goal to eradicate cancer.
How long have you lived in Medford/RV:  I grew up here and graduated from Medford Senior High school.  After earning a sociology degree from Oregon State University, my husband and I moved to Texas where we lived for several years.  Our objective was always to return to the west coast, and we were fortunate to relocate to Medford twenty-one years ago.
Favorite movie:  Dr. Zhivago, because it was the first movie date with my future husband.
Favorite play:  Phantom of the Opera (How can you beat the music of Phantom?).
Favorite actor: Michael Caine, who I thought was cute when I was fourteen, and still do.
Favorite actress: Julie Andrews, and I so wish I could sing like her!
Favorite TV show: Dancing With the Stars—it trumps Monday Night Football!
Favorite radio station:  95.7, because I love Bob & Tom.
Favorite book of all time:  Explorers of the Dawn. My favorite aunt read this book to me at her beach house where I spent childhood summers.
Favorite magazine:  Food and Wine.
Favorite pet of all time:  Daisy, a dog we rescued from the animal shelter.
Other than friends and family, what person do you admire the most (and why):  My 6th grade teacher, Pat Findley, who once told me “You get out of life what you are willing to put into it.”  Her words have certainly rung true.
What’s the first thing you turn to when you read a daily newspaper?  The local section, and then world events.
Favorite part of the Sneak Preview:  Every single page!
Favorite hobbies:  Working out with my kinesis class at Superior Athletic Club, traveling, and spending time with family and friends.
Favorite local restaurants: Porters, Gogi’s, Dragonfly and Thai Pepper.
What would you do if you won $10 million in the lottery?  I would use all of the money to support the efforts of the dedicated women of the Hillcrest Committee.
What is the most important thing you learned as a child?  Being raised in a family of nine, I learned how to share, whether I wanted to or not.
What person or event had the biggest impact on your life?  When I was nine years old, my widowed father remarried and my sister and I instantly acquired a mother and five brothers – most days it was a real blessing!
Proudest achievement: Being happily married for 32 years to Craig, my high-school sweetheart, and raising three wonderful children – Sarah, Kyle and Stephanie.
Favorite thing about Medford:  The sense of community.
What would you change about Medford:  Improve the availability of jobs that pay suitable wages to raise a family.
